Wicked Part 2 is the second of two films based on the Broadway musical Wicked. Universal officially renamed the sequel Wicked: For Good on December 16, 2024, according to Teen Vogue. The title also comes from one of the musical's most loved duets, the song For Good.
The story picks up a few years after the first movie and overlaps with the familiar events of The Wizard of Oz. Glinda becomes Glinda the Good, while Elphaba is now known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Both movies were shot back to back, so the returning cast and production design carry over directly from Part One, as Pedestrian notes.
The trailer shows Glinda, Elphaba, Dorothy, and Glinda's wedding, and it sets up the final confrontation between the two witches. The first official trailer premiered on June 4, 2025, and the final trailer landed on September 24, 2025, giving fans the longest look yet at the sequel. IGN calls it the official final trailer for the sequel to the hit Broadway play.
The final trailer runs about three minutes. It opens with Glinda putting on her Good Witch crown and entering her bubble. It then moves to Elphaba returning to confront Glinda, and it closes with the pair singing For Good. In between, the trailer shows Dorothy Gale arriving in Oz, which confirms that the film will intersect with The Wizard of Oz in a bigger way than the musical does.
The first trailer closed with the line I'm off to see the Wizard, which connects Elphaba's story directly to the 1939 film. In the final trailer, Dorothy's arrival signals that the two stories are about to collide.
“The wedding is life or death for all of them.”
Director Jon M. Chu told Vanity Fair why the movie adds Glinda's wedding, a scene not seen in the stage production. The quote is repeated in Pedestrian's Wicked coverage.
The trailer uses songs from the Broadway score. The final trailer includes No Good Deed and For Good performed by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, while the first trailer previewed Glinda's Thank Goodness. Universal also confirmed that the sequel includes at least one entirely new song.
The main cast returns from Part One because both films were shot back to back. The returning stars include Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, and Ethan Slater as Boq.
Dorothy Gale also appears in the trailer. According to Pedestrian, Dorothy has a bigger role in the films than in the musical. Both lead actors were Academy Award nominated for their performances in the first movie, per IGN.
Wicked: For Good was released on November 21, 2025, ahead of Thanksgiving. The date moved forward from the earlier planned November 26, 2025 release, according to Teen Vogue. The first Wicked film also had a one-night return to theaters on June 4, 2025, tied to the first trailer's debut.
